All too quickly, it seems, the Holiday Season is once again approaching. Of course, that means rushing from place to place; holiday dinners, shopping trips, and the like. The Corning City Library Board of Trustees has decided to host its second Holiday Tour of Homes. What a great way to spend a nice relaxing afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
The tour will take place on Sunday, December 6, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Six homes are being featured on this year’s tour, and don’t forget to stop by the new library, as well, to check out our new space and enjoy some light refreshments. The homeowners will have some unique and interesting holiday displays in their lovely homes. The six following homes will definitely be worth your trip to Corning.
Michael and Amy Boeckman’s beautiful stucco and rock faced home will be hard to miss, sitting at the intersection of Highways 9 and 63 in Corning. Built in 2004 by the homeowners themselves and their family, the spacious home features custom oak cabinets, custom closets, as well as a garden tub in the master bath, to name a few things. Several themed Christmas trees are on display in this home, so be sure to check them out!
Down on Washington Street, a circle drive with a covered entryway leads to John and Janie Kramer’s home. Stone and stucco cover this home’s exterior as well. The open interior of the home contains custom wood cabinetry, a center fireplace, and features one cabinet that was actually made from an antique dresser, brought to Kansas by covered wagon. There are many other attractions in this home that you won’t want to miss.
Still completing the tour of town homes, on 6th street, Travis and Nickie Haverkamp’s eye-catching home, with the wrap-around porch attaching a deck and patio, will certainly draw you in. Travis’ business, Haverkamp Construction, built this home in 2006/07. Together, the couple designed the layout of their spacious new home. Nickie set up a Christmas display, including ornaments that are over 60 years old!
Venturing east out of town just barely, you will find Robert and Trish McNally’s brick and stucco home. Built in 2001, one is drawn to the cathedral ceiling in the dining room, the propane fireplace in the living room, and the wood stove in the basement. Custom built cabinets and home-made holiday decorations are on display as well.
The last two homes are west of Corning, in the country on 32nd Rd. The first is owned by Linus and Mary Holthaus, and they have lived in their home since 1973. The original builders of the home are unknown, but two additions have been added since, built by their families. Inside the home are kitchen cupboards built by Mary’s nephew, John Mitchell. Mary loves to decorate, with some old, some homemade. Be sure to make note of the tree decorations as you tour her home.
Just down the road is our last home, owned by Jerod and Cindy Flentie. Their house was built in 2006 by Travis Haverkamp Construction. It features an open kitchen, living room, and dining room, as well as three bedrooms and two baths on the main level, and two bedrooms and one bath on the lower level. A lighted village is on display above the kitchen cabinets. As with all the homes, this is one you certainly don’t want to miss!
Tickets are already on sale, for $12 each. They can be purchased in advance at the Corning City Library, Kuttin Edge in Corning, Picture This in Seneca, or from any of the board members, Hannah Huerter, Renee Kramer, Lydia Beck, Shayla Beck, Tami Mars, Jessica Deters, Louella Talley, and also from librarian, Mandy Deters. Tickets will also be available the day of the tour at any of the six homes, or at the library. The homes can be toured in any order you prefer. Proceeds benefit the Corning City Library, to help us build an overhang above our entrance. We hope that everyone will take a brief respite from the frantic holiday season and spend the afternoon with us.
